Love letter to the places that make us human
Valentine's Day is about showing our love for others. While we tend to focus on humans, what if it was also time to think of the things we love in other ways?
I'm taking a minute to pause this evening to think about the places we love that shape us and make us who we are.
For some people it might be an animal, a plant, a specific place, and ecosystem.
For me it's water, and more specifically the ocean. While there are definitely specific places that hold important meaning to me, I've found much the same feeling seeing the ocean next door and on the literal other side of the world. Every drop of water on this planet is connected in some way - whether it's in a wave that laps at our feet or in the rain that falls on our garden or in the sweat on our skin.
And maybe that's the lesson - at one time or another in some way every particle on this planet is connected - every thing that makes us human also connects us to every non living thing we share this place with.
Here's to the ocean in all its:
-complexity
-vastness
-raging strength
-calm power
-possibility
What's your love note to a non-human?
